AEO: winning the answer, not the ten blue links
Answer Engine Optimization focuses on systems that return a synthesized answer with sources. That is a different surface from a parametric chat model with no search, and different again from Google AI Overviews — which AIB does not treat as a Gemini API result.

What AIB measures
- Grounded answer presence on answer-engine APIs (e.g. Perplexity when configured)
- Which URLs appear as citations
- Whether your entity is named inside the synthesized answer
How the Bureau works
- Engine tags mark surface_type and knowledge_type so AEO evidence is not mixed with memory probes.
- Search Intelligence can show you ranked in retrieval but absent from the spoken answer — or the reverse.
What this is not
- AIB does not currently claim a dedicated Google AI Overviews scraper as a scored engine.
- Answering well in Perplexity’s API is not the same as a Bing Copilot consumer pane.

GEO vs AEO?
GEO is the broader generative-engine practice. AEO is the answer-engine slice: retrieval plus cited synthesis. AIB keeps them labeled so a Memory miss is not reported as an AEO miss.
